...VERY HIGH TO NEAR CRITICAL FIRE DANGER EXPECTED THIS
AFTERNOON...

Well above average to near record temperatures, low humidity, and
strong southerly winds combine for very high to near critical fire
danger this afternoon and evening. The worst conditions are
expected between noon and 7 pm today. The strongest winds are
expected east of the James River with up to 45 mph gusts possible.
The lowest humidity remains in south central SD, with values near
25 percent.

People are urged to exercise extreme care with respect to outdoor
activities that could cause grass or crop fires. Use extra caution
with equipment that can cause sparks near dry grass or vegetation.
Do not toss cigarettes on the ground. Report new fires quickly to
the nearest fire department or law enforcement office.
